Official: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles opens Oldtimer division for the classic Bus

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Oldtimers

Arguably more than any other mainstream automaker, Volkswagen is serious about its heritage. So much so that it appointed Franz-Josef Paefgen - former chief executive of Audi, Bentley and Bugatti - to head up its classics program. In this capacity, Paefgen oversees the heritage departments of each of the group's brands, but while its commercial vehicles operation may seem the least likely to preserve its past, today's announcement proves that assumption wrong.

The Oldtimers department of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles just recently moved into a new 7,000 square-meter facility in Hannover, Germany, where its staff of 13 dedicates itself to the restoration and preservation of old VW Buses. Although the garage has been active for several years, working on the company's own vehicles, the Oldtimer department has now opened its doors for private owners to bring in their vehicles for any degree of service.

Have an old Bus in need of some TLC? Click through the jump for the press release for further details and check out the gallery of high-resolution images for a closer look inside the workshop.

Movie Review of One for the Money

Sometimes I have to wonder if I really should give up reading books completely -especially if there is even the slightest chance they could possibly be created into a movie. The purpose I say this really is because, with only a handful of exceptions, the film adaptation of a somewhat very good book is practically constantly much less than stellar----and there is couple of points in life extra disappointing than a film that takes an awesome story and tells it all wrong. You are able to now add "One for the Money" to that long and distinguished list.

THE Good: Author Janet Evanovich has spent the final 18 years developing the Stephanie Plum novels, coenzyme q10 for tinnitus, about a Jersey girl who goes from selling lingerie in Trenton and becoming flat out broke, to operating as a bounty hunter for her slimy cousin's Bail Bond enterprise and keeping herself in high heels. The books are very entertaining, ringworm to go away with treatment, with suspense and humor in abundance, so it is possible to picture my delight---and, conversely, sense of impending doom---when I heard they had been organizing on making the initial installment into a film. "PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let it be as good as the book" I pleaded with the challenging of hearing film gods. "And please let someone truly very good looking play Joe Morelli" I added in my next breath. Nicely, at the very least a person heard me on THAT concern.

Katherine Heigl was selected to play the lead function of Stephanie Plum-amidst loads of protest from Evanovich's fans who felt she wasn't appropriate for the portion. Personally, I wouldn't have thought of her to fill those shoes in the first location, but she pulled off that Jersey City girl attitude (and accent) with no overkill. Jason O'Mara plays the handsome Joe Morelli, an ex cop who stole Stephanie's virtue in high school and who she has held a grudge against ever because, and whom she is now hired to track down and bring in for the sum of fifty thousand. As if she required further motivation. To become fair, these two definitely have chemistry, even when they are attempting difficult to convince themselves they don't. And with Heigl's self deprecation and city girl cajones, she plays a likeable character. If that had been the only factor needed to create this a fantastic film, the stars would have already been in alignment. Alas.

THE Bad: As mentioned previously,Made 1 Million Pounds In Under 7 Years, my expectations for this film had been possibly distinctive than someone who has NOT read the book, so I try to adjust my evaluations to fit an audience that go into this film completely blind and not expecting anything in certain. But even offered that criteria, it appears that the plot line was somewhat thin and splotchy. There were a couple of laughs scattered here and there, but overall this came across as a reverse role version of "The Bounty Hunter", and I think all of us know what the common consensus was on THAT film. And despite the fact that I didn't disagree with the casting in the two lead roles, just about absolutely everyone else fell short. I can't be certain, but I assume the director was hoping to pull off a "Betty White" really feel to Grandma Mazur (played by Debbie Reynolds). If that was his intention, it may well happen to be a slightly superior plan to basically get Betty White in the function...she undoubtedly could have accomplished wonders to add towards the humor element in my opinion. And although I make an attempt to take an overview from the perspective of a person who hasn't read the book, the reality remains that I've, and I've to become honest---Janet Evanovich's wit and penchant for telling a fantastic story deserves improved than this. It really is not that I ever let out any audible groans, but I kept waiting for it to be the excellent story I knew it was capable of being. The great news is the fact that in the event you HAVENT read the book, you will not be playing that waiting game.

THE UGLY: I don't consider there are going to be any dispute on this a single. Stephanie has to bring in an elderly man from her apartment making that has missed his court date. And as fate would have it, he's a nudist. Let your minds roam where they're going to. I think Heigl's line says it very best when she refers to his "twigs and berries" not getting such a negative point to take care of when it meant she was going to acquire paid for hauling him in.

If you will be trying to find one thing comparatively amusing to see with your significant other, this film has enough romance and Jason O'Mara to appeal to the ladies, too as a handful of action scenes-and Heigl in the shower-to entertain the guys. But I feel you will have more fun staying household and reading the book to one another.

The Trophy Wife provides this film three trophies.

Video: Denver Zoo shows off tuk tuk powered by animal poo

Poop-powered tuk tuk

When you run a zoo, we imagine there's a large quantity of animal excrement to dispose of. Fertilizer is the first thing that comes to mind. But there are only so many zoo gardens in need of nutrients. Sooner or later, you're faced with surplus of tiger turds, camel crap and snake, um, shizzle.

The Denver Zoo has decided the best use of its panda poop is to power a 20-year-old tuk tuk, or motorized rickshaw. Actually, the zoo takes all its animal waste and most human-produced trash and makes "gasified pellets" that are then subjected to very high heat in a no-oxygen environment. The pellets then give off syngas, which is burned in a generator to produce electricity used to charge the batteries for the tuk tuk's electric motor. Got all that?

The zoo says the tuk tuk is its second prototype to test the technology. The first was a syngas-powered blender used to make margaritas for zoo events. Mmmm. Tasty.

When its new elephant exhibit opens June 1, the zoo hopes to have it powered by syngas. Eventually they hope to take 100% of the zoo's animal waste and most of the human garbage from the zoo to produce at least 20% of their power needs. Check out the video after the jump.

First Drive: 2013 Ford Flex

Freshly Tweaked For A Second Life

2013 Ford Flex

Ford has not been long known for polarizing design. The company's styling philosophy has read more closely along the lines of "cheap and cheerful." But when it brought out the Flex in 2008 as a 2009 model, Ford started down a road of trying to be more expressive, emotional and evocative in the design of its crossovers and SUVs, not just with the Mustang.

For Ford, the Flex has been one of those hollow victories. The people who buy it love its Mini-Cooper-on-a-high-protein-diet look, especially with the available two-tone paint jobs, and the comfortable packaging and cruising ride they get without bumping up to a frumpy minivan. The trouble is that there haven't been enough of those happy buyers taking the plunge.

Ford sold just 27,000 Flex models last year, down 20 percent from the year before - not exactly one of CEO Alan Mulally's homeruns. Also, its marketing has been confused since its debut. Ford initially pitched it as a cool urban crew wagon - think Funkmaster Flex. The advertising Powerpoint presentation actually said "No dog drool." No kidding. The high-concept ads were all shot at night on city streets. It bombed. Soon after launch, we saw families and even a dog or two in ads.

2013 Subaru BRZ in blue taking a corner at speed - video screencap

The 2013 Subaru BRZ is "one of the most rewarding cars we've ever driven" says Edmunds after subjecting the new coupe to some track time. This, despite having a 0-60 time that rivals that of some minivans - 7.3 seconds. Inside Line says those numbers are mostly due to an overactive rev limiter that forces a third-gear shift at 59.2 mph. We bet that's an early tuner fix. Also likely to be improved with an aftermarket reflash is the 15.3-second quarter-mile time.

So you won't be winning many stoplight drag races in box-stock form, but as we all know, there's far more to a fun car than just straight-line numbers. According to IL, "the BRZ offers a level of engagement that, until now, has been either too costly or too impractical for the average enthusiast." They even go so far as to compare the BRZ's overall character to a Lotus Exige and the beastly Porsche 911 GT3(!).

No, the BRZ can't hang with either of those hardcore Europeans, but Inside Line says its balanced mixture of handling, cost, every day usability, and practicality make for "a perfect balance between date nights and track days." Check out the video after the jump.

How Birds and Other Flying Creatures Can Benefit a Garden How to boost vision

Seeds are planted, watered, washed with sunlight, charged with electrons in the course of a thunder and lightning storm and nurtured to maturity. We as humans definitely depend on this procedure. But so do the pollinators. Those hard-working players in this ecological balancing act are active in our gardens 24/7.

Birds, bees, butterflies, moths, bats, beetles, ants and yes, even the lowly flies have essential helpful duties to perform within the garden. Flowers, fruits and vegetables have adopted elegant systems to attract carriers, and attach and distribute their pollen for optimum survival in the species.

To a bird, insect or bat, your garden is a metropolis filled with neon signs and billboards advertising its goods. The neon signs and billboards are the flower petals. They attract focus employing color, such as ultraviolet markers, fragrance, shape and size. The ultimate reward for the transporter is the sweet and nutritious nectar of the flower. The base with the sign could be the flower stalk,Heat rash Hives treatment, which is designed to hold the flower high sufficient to become effortlessly seen. This insures it will not be trampled by insect and critter traffic on the ground before it features a likelihood to be fertilized.

A bee has observed the ultraviolet nectar sign and beats a path to its target. Hairs on the bees abdomen are statically charged to assist hold the pollen as it brushes the anther, which is the male element in the plant that produces the fertilizing powder. Bees also have built-in 'saddle bags' and 'baskets' on their legs and body components to transport the pollen to the next flower. Once the pollen is brushed off onto the sticky stigma (female element from the plant), it travels down the stigma's tube towards the ovary and ovules at the base in the flower. There every single ovule becomes a new fertilized flower seed. And that is the ultimate reward for the flower!

Evolution has additional modified plants to provide just the right size nectar tube to accommodate the precise size critter tongue. For example, moths hover to feed, so they want a flat flower having a deep tube to match the length with the moth's tongue. The flower is going to be white or extremely light in order to be observed inside the moonlight, and it is going to be heavily scented to be discovered inside the dark of night.

Bats function the nightshift also. Those flowers that open following sundown and are extremely fragrant, massive, showy and white with larger pollen grains will attract our echo-locators' focus. They've bristles on their tongues to which some pollen sticks as they lap up the nectar. It is then transferred to the subsequent flower from the bat's head, feet and tongue. Larger, tougher flowers will accommodate the bat's head without having harm. Additionally, bats can consume a large number of harmful insects each night. I'd hate to think where we'd be without having their vigilance!

Bees are especially attracted to yellow and blue colors too as sweet smelling plants. The flower tubes of these plants just take place to become the proper size for the bee's tongue to reach. Interestingly, snapdragons can only be 'unlocked' by a bee in the right size and weight to 'provide the appropriate key' to open the 'magic door' for the 'treasure room'.

Conversely, butterflies don't have a excellent sense of smell, however they can see the color red. Did you realize that they 'taste' with their feet? They have extremely sensitive receptors that tell them if they are on the proper nectar-rich plant, or on the edge of a yummy mud puddle complete of minerals and moisture necessary for their survival. Flowers that develop clusters of smaller flowerettes generate a fantastic landing pad for the butterflies so they can sip securely.

Those plants that retailer their pollen inside the anther rather than on top rated, which include the tomato, really need to be shaken to ensure the pollen is released via the pores with the stamen. Bumblebees deliver this service. They land on the flower after which vibrate their wings, and voila!

Beetles are an additional flying creature which will benefit a garden. They like the spicy or fruity scents of significant greenish or off-white flowers. Because beetles have fairly efficient chompers, these particular flowers have created armor to defend the delicate ovules from damage because the beetles go about their pollinator job.

Hummingbirds have a fantastic sense of smell and are drawn to red, orange and pink tubular flowers within your garden. I am certain you have observed a hummer sipping nectar from a hanging fuschia or potted petunia. They call for flower petals that are curved away from their fast-beating wings as they feed. Pollen is transferred to their chest, beak and head in the approach.

Songbirds do not have a powerful sense of smell, so they seek brightly colored flowers for instance red, orange, pink, yellow and purple. They not merely spread pollen through their beaks, heads, play microsoft flight on mac, chests and feet, but distribute the seeds that they've eaten by way of their droppings. A location where birds congregate on a regular basis will yield 'surprise' gardens, which have automatically been planted and fertilized by our stunning aviators.

Additionally, birds consume an enormous amount of insects. Bugs that will do damage to our flowers, vegetables and fruits are fed to infant birds as a nutrient-rich protein source. This assists the child birds develop speedy and sturdy. Adult birds benefit from consuming these protein snacks also. Blue Jays even use ants to 'comb' their feathers and repel other insects using the formic acid they exude! Thankfully, our backyard birds do a quantity on vast quantities of insects everyday.

All this biodiversity insures a vastly varied gene pool. The bigger the gene pool, the greater the chance a great deal of distinct species survive to reproduce. Resist the temptation to swat a bee or squash a ladybug. Don't forget, they do fantastic points for our orchards, farms and gardens.

Without birds and also other flying creatures to provide these important advantages to our gardens we could be overrun by harmful insects, which would then destroy our great flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. Even when they weren't carried out in by insects, without having the pollination process so effectively performed by our pollinator buddies, there will be no additional flowers, veggies or fruits. Our ecological balance would be destroyed and us in addition to it. That is how critical these vastly underrated birds along with other flying creatures are to all of us,How to boost vision!

Fisker Nina line drawing teaser
There's not a whole lot to say about the Fisker Nina teaser image that the company just dropped into our inboxes, it's largely just a way to say the real thing will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show in a few short weeks. In the thick, stylized lines offered here, we see hints of the Karma and not a whole lot more.

So we went looking in the archives. We've heard the Nina plug-in hybrid will be about the size of a BMW 5 Series and be powered by a BMW four-cylinder engine. We've also heard production is supposed to start by the middle of 2013 and that three variants will be available by the end of 2014. Those are reports from the past and we know how things change in the green car world. We'll have to see what Fisker tells us in New York when it offers up "a business update and a glimpse of our future" to know for sure. What are your thoughts?
