Sharia: Is It Something We Should Fear?

Sharia has been a relatively controversial topic in the media these days, especially as it relates to the overall relationship between Islam and the West. It has received considerable attention from all figures alike and raises the issue of whether Islam can coexist naturally with notions of modernity and globalization. For many, the laws and codes of conduct comprising the Sharia can not in any way be in adherence to those of the United States. The unfortunate part, however, is that many people do not understand exactly what Sharia is to begin with, and so cannot truly illustrate its spirit or purpose.
